Problem:
How do you effectively light an office with low ceilings?

Solutions:
Our offices have low ceilings (7'- 10") and wood trusses 5" above the ceiling. Our computer use leads us to turn lights off and close the blinds. We have tried parabolic and eggcrate fluorescents in the past, with disappointing results: too much light and too much glare. So, for our last expansion, we specified indirect fluorescent fixtures which fit in 4" of ceiling space and use two 32WT8 bulbs to throw light evenly and with minimal glare, even with low ceilings. These lights are about $250, but you only need one per 100 square feet for workstation areas. If this is too expensive, try a $30 dimmable, 300W halogen floor torch. But if you need a lighting solution for low ceilings, this works.
